Happy Mother’s Day!

mother's day

Mark your calendars….Saturday, May 11, 2013.  The Webster Street Market kicks off its second season and it’s Mother’s Day weekend.  The Webster Street Market carries so many locally- made gifts for that wonderful lady in your life!

We are so excited to have the return of last year’s vendors and have added some new ones for the opening day. As always, we love to highlight our local artisans and wish to share their creations.  Many of them  have been busy during the winter months restocking and introducing new products to their line.  During this next week, we would like to spotlight the various vendors. The Webster Street Market is proud to introduce a new artisan….

A-Round Dayton creates handcrafted buttons, bottle openers, pocket mirrors, ponytail holders, and bottle cap necklaces and magnets. We use an array of recycled components, i.e. books, magazines, scrap fabric, cards, wrapping paper, beer bottle labels and bottle caps, to make our items. A-Round Dayton offer customers, including children, the ability to design and make their own buttons, bottle openers, pocket mirrors, and ponytail holders at festivals and events. Custom orders welcomed!

Families with children….you will love making your own buttons. For a very reasonable price, your child can create a handmade, one-of-a-kind gift perfect for Mother’s Day!  I know that our 10 year old daughter puts her creative energy into her buttons.  She loves it!  Take a peek at some of A-Round Dayton creations……

Strolling Happily into the Sunset……

Strolling Happily into the Sunset……

“I adore simple pleasures. They are the last refuge of the complex.”   –Oscar Wilde

It has been a sincere pleasure to partake in the adventures of The Webster Street Market. Through pouring, storming rains, while holding on to the leg of a tent pole… I wouldn’t trade it for a double scoop of triple chocolate ice cream. Even though The Market has one more Saturday left, I am glad to announce that we will be back again in the spring of 2013. So, before we pack up our tents, and fold up our display tables, don’t forget to visit us this Saturday. In honor of  Breast Cancer Awareness Month, The Webster Street Market will be donating 10% of sales proceeds to this cause. So please, stroll through the market and take a look at some of the specials.  Stubbs Family Farm will have beautiful pumpkins and squash at super prices….$5.00 each. Elizabeth’z Delightz has been working on special pink ribbon bookmarks. Our Family Soap will have you smelling like a rose…..well, okay, lavender and rosemary mint.  What a refreshing gift for the special lady in your life!  Take a look at the wonderful creations by Mark the Woodman. How about a natural wood clock!

If you can’t make it to The Market, you can still visit some of the vendors on line.

At Our Family Soap,  take a look at the old fashion shaving mugs, brushes and soap.

Flip Side Pillowcase is showcasing their up-cycled dresses on Etsy. Cute idea for adorable ladies.

Mark the Woodman has some nice wood clocks on his site and unique jewelry.  Great  gifts for the upcoming season!

Steph’s Jewels is sparkling  on Etsy. She also has a nice display on consignment at Clash on Fifth Street, Dayton.

Elizabeth’z Delightz  also has her ribbon bookmarks at Clash.  Nice stocking stuffer!

Take a online gander to Stubbs Family Farm.  They still have some of the most beautiful brown eggs! They raise their own produce and meats for their family and yours.

As we enter the winter months, we will be working on events for the upcoming 2013 season. We would like to create a children’s zone to further emphasize our family friendly atmosphere.  We hope to have a couple of Made in Ohio events.   Of course, we will continue serving free popsicles. Perhaps we can organize a Food Truck Extravaganza.  Do you have an idea that you would like to share, then let us know.

Until our paths meet again, we will stroll happily into the sunset…….

Made in Ohio

Made in Ohio

As I was perusing through photos taken at The Webster Street Market, I came across a picture of our daughter that inspired me to write this post.  First, here is the picture…..

Other than the sandals she is wearing, everything else is made in Dayton, Ohio.  She is sporting a dress created by Flip Side Pillowcase, a business venture started by a Dayton mother of four and her mother-in-law.  The flower headband and the bundle of stuffed toys are hand knitted by Bonnie Ann Turayev, owner of Violet’s Silver Lining. It is so refreshing to have the choice to buy products made in the United States. Our daughter  was able to purchase these lovely animal friends after selling her wares at her booth, Elizabeth’z Delightz.  So, not only is she learning about the “American Dream” of entrepreneurship but she has the opportunity to buy locally  made products.

At The Webster Street Market we highly encourage and support local artisans to share their creations with the public. Here’s a look at the other Ohio made items you can find at The Market.

Stubb’s Family Farm    Try the tomatoes in a garlic vinaigrette!

Mark The Woodman with unique business card holders and other creations from nature.

Violet’s Silver Lining offers hand knit stuffed animal friends. Is there a certain creature you would like her to make….just place a request.

Jewelry from Steph’s Jewels, CBS Creations and Gina. Who knew that you could wear buttons dangling from your ears!

Pillowcase dresses!  Superhero capes!  What a wonderful idea and great gift for the little ladies and gentlemen in you family… FlipSide Pillowcase.

Our Family Soap has a fresh batch of sweet smelling lavender soap waiting for you.

Precious bows and ribbons are waiting for your little girl at Ellie & Liv.

Unique ribbon bookmarks can be found at Elizabeth’z Delightz….made by a Dayton kid.

A slideshow featuring these locally made items can be viewed in the next post…..enjoy!

(I’m sorry. Having tech difficulties with the slideshow.)

Steph’s Jewels

Welcome Steph’s Jewels

Julie Crusenberry has joined the market.  What a sparkly, shiny addition.

Here is her biography and a sample of her treasures. She belongs to Handmade Dayton. Enjoy!

Julie Crusenberry  dba Steph’s Jewels

Julie loves making jewelry – her latest collection is created using repurposed, altered and up-cycled vintage parts.  It’s a very unique technique very popular at art & craft shows, boutiques and on-line at Etsy.com

Julie frequents Estate Sales, Antique Sows and Flea Markets searching for vintage pieces that need to be rescued and given new life.  A time-worn look adds to the vintage charm of the jewelry collection.

*A vintage clip-on earring becomes a wire-wrapped statement ring.

*An antique Art Deco rhinestone brooch becomes a focal point on a collage necklace.

*Vintage buttons are attached together to form a unique bracelet.

Julie’s daughter, Stephanie, taught her the craft of making jewelry.  Since she was a little girl, Stephanie has been teaching herself how to make jewelry.  The business name, Steph’s Jewels, is a combination of their two nicknames.

Steph’s Jewels has been featured in manyDayton,Ohiolocal shops, boutiques, arts and crafts shows and art studios. Julie is a proud member of the Handmade Dayton Etsy Team and has jewelry for sale on-line at http://www.StephsJewels4.etsy.com

Let us not be too particular.  It is better to have old second-hand diamonds than none at all.  ~Mark Twain
